Laura’s Story

I am a born and raised idealist. I believe that people have a deep-seated desire to express their talents and gifts and to do jobs that will not only benefit them but others also. I believe that our calling is revealed through connections, through intuitive insights and deep stirrings and not necessarily by cerebral processes. I believe that in a disconnected world it is still possible to do work that connects – connects us to ourselves, to our community, to nature, to a higher purpose. I believe in it, because I have first-hand experiences that provide an irrefutable proof for all these.

Many times I had the feeling during my life that I was being picked up and carried by a huge wave – by something that is a lot more powerful than my small ego. It usually happened when I dared to follow my heart’s desire, to act on a call that was so strong that I couldn’t pretend that I did not hear its voice. Chance encounters and unexpected turns of events pushed me gently along my path whenever I was brave enough to take the first step towards the unknown. This happened when I signed up for my first yoga teacher training, also when – as an absolute beginner literary translator – I applied for a publishing house to translate a giant bestseller that was close to my heart and got the assignment – or when I ditched a class at my university just to be able to go to a Deep Ecology workshop – which lead to writing parts of this book. On all these occasions I had a very strong sense of something pulling me forcefully – and while this did not always feel logical to me, experience has shown me that the best thing I can do is follow this call and trust that it will take me where I need to be.

I have experienced and learned to embrace the paradox of creative living – on one hand, allowing life to unfold organically on the other consciously creating our own path. With a growing self-awareness, I have found that I can function the best when I take care of myself physically and emotionally and connect to nature on a daily level. Walks in the forest provide me with creative insights and ideas and I hope to include wilderness and eco-therapy in my future work also.

I feel that my calling is to empower others to step into their full power and find out how they can translate their big ideas, their idealism, their values, into a job that fills them with joy and provides them with a decent income. To be an authentic consultant, I wish to – and strive to – embody all these values and principles in my own life, and “walk the talk”, wherever my path is taking me.
